You simply need to change your router to one that can use wireless connections. Use a router that can use 802.11b,g, and draft n, as 802.11 has better speed and range, and the b/g to work with the rest of the wireless internet connects.

  1. Easiest and cheapest would be to get a wireless router, implement your security (firewall and encryption) on the router and connect your PC’s and other gadgets (if you own a smartphone you may notice it can use the wifi-connection as well). A bog standard (54g) wifi should do and be very affordabe. Any shop should be able to advise you.

If your Desktop and / or laptop do not have wireless card you may need to buy those. Cost of this should not be prohobitive. But it may be easier to get them together with the router, so you have less risk of confusion if anything is wrong.

These suggestions assume you live in an place where the Wifi will not suffer from thick walls, etc and that you do not mind setting it all up & occasionally doing maintenance (re-starting etc.).

If you are truly daunted by all the techno-efforts involved you could consider retaining a wired router and using homeplug technology to connect your equipment.

For your Wii you can by a usb-ehternet adapter. (I have added a link). And one homeplug device.
If your desktop is conncted to an old (wired router) you could just keep that connection.
You laptop could be connected with a “starter kit”.

Wired would be a bit more expensive, but no secrutiy worries, no wifi disconnects and poor signal problems. And you could be running for months and monhs without interruptions.

I have added a link to some reviews of one brand of homeplug-manufacturer by users. I count myself among the happy users. It just works, no wobbly tecno-stuff, unexplained disconnects etc..
