LAN = Local Area Network. It’s meant for people sitting right next to you. There is no way to get a local network that far because of signal degredation over the wire.

  1. You would need to set up a wireless bridge, with bridging routers at each end, high gain antennas, and most important of all, line of sight between the two antennas. If the antennas cannot “see” each other, your usual wireless bridging gear will not work.

There is some more expensive 900Mhz wireless bridges that do not need line of sight, but “near line of sight” (close is usually good enough). Ubiquity makes some of these units.

Expect to pay between $ 500 to $ 1000 for a basic home wireless bridge setup….assuming you do the work.

If both of you are on the internet already, with 3mpbs or better networks, you may want to look into some form of VPN software, where you link the two home LANs together.
You would need some networking help from someone who knows this stuff for any of these solutions…

  2. That’s right. If you’re both on high speed Internet. Just set up a VPN between your two networks, and it will be just like a LAN.

  3. NOT cheap.
