Gigabit ethernet in a home network?

Question by Jason B: Gigabit ethernet in a home network?
Someone gave me a server and I plan to use it in a home network and as an internet game server. It has two 1000BASE-T cards installed, and I’d like to know if I could make use of them in any way. I doubt I’d be using the server for file swapping or storage, but if I can find some cheap SCSI drives for it, I might.

you could buy a gigabit switch, but if you weren’t doing any large file transfers i don’t really see the point. 100 mbit is fine for internet speeds. you could always run a cat-6 line to it incase you ever upgrade down the road.
