I’m new to the Wi-Fi business & I know my son wants to play his playstation 3 games on wi-fi but I don’t know if I have wi-fi. How do you know if you have wi-fi connection? Is there something you buy to have wi-fi connection like a chip or something?

Yep.
You need a wi-fi access point, (router) and an internet connection.

You would know if you had Wifi, because you would have had to setup it up to work. You can buy a wireless router at BestBuy or any electronics store. Should cost you about $ 50.
