Give your answer to this question below!
I’m not sure how to, but you can probably set a password.
btw eli, nice link at the end of answer lol i was thinking about doing tht.
Hi B,
Post your router make and model number.
You will have to log into your wireless router web page.
If you have not set it up, it is open to anyone to use. It will appear open to connect for anyone. Worse, the userid and password to the router, is also default. This means that anyone can connect to your network, then connect to the router setup page and change any setting.
Most but not all, router setup pages include an activity log. Here you can see all of the users (computer name) piggybacking onto your bandwidth.
You should log into the admin page, and change the admin userid, and password, and the regular userid and password which both ship with well known default names.
Enable wireless encryption on your router, and setup it up on your laptop/pc ( and write it down ; )
If your router has already been hacked, the password may have been changed. You can reset the whole thing, by pressing a small reset button located on the router, then follow the basic setup instructions.
Dont click on any of the emails, they nearly always are linked to “drive by” spyware, viruses or worse.
Check your security, scan and remove adaware/spyware.
Open IE, then select:
Tools, Internet Options. It will open with the General Tab, and should show the home page. Be sure this is a home page you want, and not some unknown site. You might just change it to http://www.google.com to be sure. click ok.
Then on the Security tab click INTERNET, and click Default level, then Trusted Sites and click Default level and also click the Sites button and be sure that it is empty, or only filled with your trusted sites.
Then click Restricted Sites, and click Sites, this should be filled with thousands of malware sites. If it is not, follow the instructions below for installing and immunizing with Spybot, and it will pre-populate this box with malware sites.
Download Spybot search and destroy free versions.
On Spybot, click update, and download all available updates. After that, then click the immunize button on the left, then the immunize button on the screen, it will show you how many products will be blocked, great, but you must click it AGAIN. It should take a moment, and then show you how many are blocked. Click “check again”, and it should show that all are blocked. This only blocks bad stuff dont worry about any of your applications. This immunization also fills the
Tools, Internet Options, Security, Restricted Sites, Sites. It will automatically block spyware, and IE from opening these malware sites.
Spybot may ask to run after a reboot because the malware is currently running. Agree to the run after reboot.
Also download install and scan with ADAWARE.
These wont help your email problem which is independent of the WIFI issue, but will help to clean your computer if it is infected.
May the force be with you . . .
