Any suggestions on what software and hardware I will need?
I already have Windows XP Pro Operating Systems and a cable modem to which all the computers will share for internet access.

you will need a router, cat 5e or 6 cables(for wired), windows xp works fine to do it with, the printer u can hook to one of the 3 systems and share it to the rest, and if your systems dont got on board lan, u might have to buy a nic for them, for wireless u need a wireless router, and wireless cards for 2 of the 3 systems

you will have to buy a hub so that all computers connect with each other.and one will connect to internet
you will need 2 network adapters for the computer through which you connects to internet
1 for internet acess
2 for connecting to the hub
in your case there are 3 computers to be connected.
if there wer only 2 computers then a cross cable would have been sufficient.
but for more than 3 computers you need a hub
