NJ unemployment question?

Question by bobbyfk: NJ unemployment question?
I was laid off from my job in February and have been collecting since the beginning of April, I do have a P/T job with the Home Shopping Network doing orders/CS from my home, they do take out for unemployment and other taxes, it is not a independent contractor position, my hours vary greatly from week to week, one week I may get 35 hours but the next week I may only get 7 or 8. Every week they have been taking an amount out of my unemployment check, I was wondering if after 26 weeks if there is still money on my claim will I get that money? if I was able to get more hours and unemployment starts taking less out of my check will the benefits last for a longer period of time?

Thank You Very Much

To answer your question, unemployment lasts for 26 weeks no matter how much you make or don’t make in that period.

Now there are extensions in place because the unemployment rate is high. That means they are allowing people to collect for more than 26 weeks. You will get a notice in the mail from UE telling you what to do to get the extension.
