by RJ1 I assume you mean RJ-11, which is plain telephone wire. RJ-45 is standard network cable.

    RJ1 is for telephone, RJ45 is for ethernet (i.e networking)

  2. To add to the previous post:

    The RJ-11 has 4 possible wire connections, the RJ-45 has 8.

  3. The RJ-11 connector is physically smaller than an RJ45 connector allowing for a larger number of wires to be connected to the RJ45 connector.
