Question by Taylor Taege: Will an Ethernet Splitter work to split the PS3 internet and computer internet connection from a modem?
I am going to buy a PS3 in the next week and i was just wondering about the internet connection. I don’t have wireless internet and so i didn’t know if a ethernet splitter would work to hook up the PS3 and still have the internet to my computer work?

no , because you’ll be trying to share an ip address
you need a multi port router , either wired or wireless to provide multiple ip addresses – even just a 2 port wired router – they’re only $ 30 or so ( plus an ethernet cable if you go wired )

  1. No.

An Ethernet splitter allows you to share the physical wiring of a single cable (wall wiring typically has 8 wires, whereas 100mbs Ethernet only uses 4), it doesn’t share the connection.

If you connect to a modem, and want to be able to use both your PS3 and PC then you will need to get a router.
